Performance

Diego Lacayo-Jaén's performative activity can be defined as dramatic, extreme and binding. His actions establish poetic scenography, where the silent hieraticism of the artist stands out when faced with audiences with whom he relates through gestures close to the ritual and with the incorporation of evocative audios with texts of his own production.
In many cases, the action is reflected in fragmented images that give us back the intimate character of the ceremonial, the sequences of the gestures and, finally, the stamp of the flayed skin of the artist in his communicative effort.

Human relationships are now interfered with by technology (ourselves): Extendam at the Miami Performance International Festival 2012 was a durational piece of intrapersonal search to find similar identities.

An exploration of our behavior and how we portray ourselves as objects and not as nature. The artist communicates with the audience that represented the world through artificial means that make us prisoners of ourselves.

Representation of interpersonal beauty perceived as a daily activity. The public will discover the connection between projection and matter, through a continuous interaction and a work of interpretation based on time, since the piece was in progress for months.

An intense quest for identity, and for a not very real or surreal personality that breaks aesthetic standards internalized by the artist, trying never to discover what beauty really is. Destroying everything in sight with just expression.

Reverse Vision Revolution

The piece was born in the context of the artist in the midst of the vertical and artificial growth of Panama City, taking note of the form and construction of the artificial environment, the problems that other citizens faced in the challenges of the street and the great gap between the structures of wealth of their society.

The privileged refuge that the powerful had created was turning its back on the true city. Invading buildings facing the ocean and at the same time turning their backs on reality, expressing indifference.

The piece is a statement against the double public rebuke, which exhibits the artist's body symbolizing Panamanian society walking through a threshold of pain. Installation lasting 1.5 hours.

Video performance presented in the UK by Word of Warning. This piece filters out the insecurities involved in disguising what is right and wrong in our minds: it leaves both aside and places only reality in the spotlight.

What is society really showing us?

What do we really want to see?

Reality or fantasy?

Installation that exhibits a connection between human and Earth through universal light.

We are connected to our base in non-physical senses, in abstract links that can only reach our minds. The artist leans against a tree while images of the Earth seen from space are projected.

Installation of 1.5 hours duration.
